When you purchase a renewal of a TerraStar subscription/contract the scheduling works as follows:
- If you purchase the renewal before the final week of the existing contract, the change will be scheduled to take effect exactly 7 days before the original end date. From that point there will be a new activation message going over the air to the receiver which extends the end date of the subscription (to that of the renewal end date) and applies any other service changes which were included in the renewal. This same updated message will go out periodically from this point about every 3 to 3.5 hours for the next 30 days. Once the receiver gets this message it will update its local subscription data.
- If you purchase the renewal in the final week of the original contract, the new message first goes out immediately – within about 30s of the purchase. It will then continue to be resent periodically every 3-3.5 hours for 30 days.
