When activating a TerraStar subscription with a NovAtel receiver how do I select the correct beam?

In NovAtel receivers, the L-band tracking  that will allow to track TerraStar beam is set to “IDLE” by default (i.e. receiver will not track the L-Band TerraStar signal).  The user can enable the L-band tracking of TerraStar satellite either in “AUTO” or “MANUAL” mode. The AUTO mode uses the TerraStar beam table information stored within the receiver to configure the tracking (i.e. highest elevation). In the MANUAL mode, the user can set specific settings (i.e. particular beam) to track the TerraStar beam.  NovAtel recommends the AUTO mode to track the TerraStar beam, which can be achieved by the following receiver command:

  • ASSIGNLBANDBEAM AUTO

The auto  setting allows the GNSS receiver to automatically track the signal from the highest elevation TerraStar satellite for the best performance. The TerraStar beam information such as the beam name, Region ID, Frequency, Baud, Longitude are stored within the NovAtel receiver firmware, which can be obtained by the following receiver command:

  • LOG LBANDBEAMTABLE ONCE

Note that the user can still assign other parameters, if needed. For example,

  • ASSIGNLBANDBEAM [option] [name] [frequency] [baudrate] [dopplerwindow]

i.e. ASSIGNLBANDBEAM MANUAL 98W 1539902500 1200

The following receiver command can be used to verify the L-band (TerraStar beam) tracking:

  • LOG LBANDTRACKSTAT

To verify the status of TerraStar subscription (to check whether the receiver was activated), the following receiver command can be issued:

  • LOG TERRASTARINFO
