Frequently Asked Questions > Logging In (overall access) >

My login attempt produced a "...you do not have rights to it" error message. Is my account working for access to webCafé?

Yes, your account is working normally.  If, after logging in to webCafé, you receive this error message:

Unfortunately, eRoom was unable to generate the page you requested, because you do not have rights to it.

it means that you do not have access to the specific webCafé room, folder or document that you were trying to reach.

If you saw this message when trying to reach a specific eRoom via a link from our home page or SPIKE, it means that you currently don't have membership in the room.  For example, if you just added a current course in PennInTouch or a school office, and that course uses webCafé, our systems might not have had time to grant your enrollment-based automatic membership.  In the case of a student organization or other non-course room, an officer or coordinator has not yet granted your access to the room.  For more advice about issues with membership (access to specific rooms), consult this section of our Help & Support/FAQs.

If you received the message after clicking a link in an email, and the room is one you normally use, the issue may either be because of access control settings (e.g., someone sent you a link to a folder made private just to certain people), or because the item or folder has been deleted.  For more information about issues with access control on specific items and folders, visit this FAQ section.

Here's how to get past this error message and continue using webCafé:

  • You can always click the Home Page link at the top left of the page to "escape" from the error message and return to our home page, through which most webCafé rooms are linked.  The My eRooms link on the home page will list other webCafé rooms in which you currently have membership.
  • When the "...rights to it" message is shown due to lack of room membership, pressing the OK button will take you to your  My eRooms page.
  • If you encountered the error message because of access control on a specific item or folder, or because the item or folder was deleted, pressing OK should take you to the top-level folder of the webCafé room -- unless you also do not have membership in that room (in which case a second OK should take you to My eRooms).
