I'm installing XP and Product Activation is going to run and send my info to Microsoft. Will the school license perform this action, or can I purchase another license to avoid the product activation?
Technically there are two 'versions' of XP available to students. The first is purchasing XP from the Bookstore at a dramatically reduced price. This version requires product activation just like the full priced retail version. The second is the upgrade version licensed by Rose. This 'version' is only available to students through installation by Laptop Services. Thus, no CD's will be available to the student. The Rose version uses a volume license key and does NOT require a separate product activation.
The activation process in XP is extremely painless and sends no personal information to Microsoft, just system hardware information.
Can I have a Windows license key?
