Why do I have to reset the date and time each time I turn on my laptop?
The battery that backs up the clock has reached the end of its useful life. If the machine is a laptop, bring it to the Help Desk so that the battery can be replaced. If the machine is a desktop, call the Help Desk at x8989 and schedule a time for the machine to be taken to Hardware Services for the battery replacement. Note: the clock battery is different than the main power battery in a laptop and as such is not subject to the one year replacement time limit.
