What is NAT routing?
NAT (or Network Address Translation) is a type of firewall. NAT allows a router (with a DHCP server) to get its own IP address and then, using a trick involving port numbers, hide any other devices that may be plugged into its DHCP server. This routing technique allows users of broadband, who often only pay for 1 IP address from their ISP, to connect multiple devices to the same connection. Unfortunately, NAT also can causes problems with many services that rely on specific IPs and ports such as VPN, DHCP, some games, and other applications.
