Why don't I have access to Maple for OS X? Can I buy a copy through Rose?
Rose-Hulman purchases one Maple license for each undergraduate. This license is for Maple on a Microsoft Windows platform because that is the school's standard computing platform. This license can not be transferred or exchanged for a different version of Maple, e.g. a Mac OS X version.
The Maple 9 for OS X folder on Tibia can only be accessed by faculty and staff. This is because Rose-Hulman has a separate Maple license for Institute-owned computers that allows it to be installed on any of the supported platforms.
As for Maple 8 for Mac OS X, it was a time- and functionality-limited version that expired in August 2003. The folder was subsequently removed; it is NOT located inside the Maple 8 folder. The entry for Maple 8 for Mac OS X has been removed from the license table to prevent this confusion from occurring in the future. You can not open the Maple 8 folder on Tibia because you are not licensed for Maple 8, only Maple 9.
There is no buy-in option for a Mac OS X version of Maple. One order is placed in the summer for the new undergraduate students entering in the upcoming Fall term. As noted, we only license a Microsoft Windows version of the software because that is the academic computing platform at Rose-Hulman. We do not place individual orders for the software.
