While there isn't an account that is specifically for webCafé, Penn students enrolled in Wharton courses in the current semester are eligible to create a Wharton class account for use during the term. Students in Wharton degree programs will usually already have a Wharton student account. Either type of Wharton account provides computer lab access and use of educational software, such as webCafé, specified by faculty.
If you already have a PennKey, and you have been enrolled for at least one business day in a Wharton course in the Summer 2010 semester, you may create an account at:
http://accounts.wharton.upenn.edu
(Non-Wharton students should use the Class Accounts link on that site; please use Internet Explorer or Firefox only for that site -- not Chrome or Safari. You should also have Flash Player installed.)
Important notes:
- Note to non-Wharton students taking Fall 2010 courses: Class accounts are currently available only for students taking Summer 2010 courses. Check back in late August if you are enrolled in a Fall course.
- Allow a business day after enrollment before creating your account: You may encounter difficulty using the account creation form on the same day you enroll in a course, or if you have an account already because of recent courses or work at the Wharton School. If you are enrolling by permit and can't add the course through PennInTouch, contact your school's office or registrar to complete your registration the day before creating a class account. The webCafé Classic Team works together with the Wharton Computing Student Support office to assist enrolled students who run into a problem with class account creation.
- New Wharton accounts don't instantly work at webCafé: Do not try to log in immediately after you get your account. After creating your Wharton account for a current-term course using the online application form, please allow 6 hours after account creation for your account to begin working for access to specific course rooms.
- Auditors and pre-enrollment accounts need faculty permission: If you are a non-Wharton student who is also not enrolling in a Wharton course, but you are taking the class and need access to its webCafé room, instructor permission is needed. While many faculty work with Wharton Computing directly to arrange for access, if you have an email related to your permission to attend the course please feel free to forward that to the webCafé Classic Team.
- Plan ahead for password resets: The Wharton account creation process includes "password questions" you can set up to help you change your Wharton password later on in case you accidentally forget it. Users with existing Wharton accounts can set up these "password questions" by registering for Wharton Challenge-Response; another good reason to do this is because your Wharton class account may carry over to the next consecutive semester (fall, spring or summer term) if you keep taking one or more courses at the Wharton School. The password change/reset and Challenge-Response services can be found at:
http://accounts.wharton.upenn.edu (click Password Change)
- For future reference: Information on obtaining accounts can also be found on the webCafé home page, on the right side under the heading New and non-Wharton students. You'll find a link to webCafé at PennPortal (under Registration & Academic Info); in the University home page's A-Z section (under "W"); and at the Penn Library home page (under Courseware).
