How can I ensure that all questions in a quiz will be added the Question Bank Manager when I convert to an assessment.
 

Description:

 

When a quiz is converted to an assessment the questions are only added to the Question Bank Manager if one of two conditions are met:

  1. The question has a keyword associated with it.
  2. The quiz uses Section Headings with Max Items set to a value other than "Display All."

If neither of these conditions are met, the questions will not be added to the Question Bank Manager.  You can add individual questions to the Question Bank Manager after a conversion by opening the question in the question editor and clicking Done.

If your quiz does not currently meet one of the two conditions for the questions to be automatically added to the Question Bank Manager and you want all of the questions to be added to the Question Bank Manager, you can make one of two quick modifications to the quiz before converting it to an assessment.  Each option has a slightly different result in the organization of the questions.

Option 1: Add Keywords

  1. Go to utilities on the quiz.
  2. Select Add to Pool.
  3. Enter a keyword which will be applied to all of the questions in the quiz.  Keep in mind that this keyword may be used in question pools in both quizzes and assessments, so choose a keyword wisely.
  4. Now convert the quiz to an assessment.
  5. Each of the individual questions will reside in the assessment.
  6. All the questions in the quiz will also be added the Question Bank Manager in a folder titled "Pool Questions."  As you convert additional quizzes with keywords, the "Pool Questions" folder will collect questions from multiple assessments.

Option 2: Add Section Heading

  1. Open the quiz.
  2. Select Add Question > Section Heading.
  3. Set Max Items to the number of questions in the quiz and Save.
  4. Select Rearrange.
  5. Drag-n-drop the section heading to the top of the list of questions.
  6. Now convert the quiz to an assessment.
  7. Rather than containing each individual question, the assessment will contain a single pool item question with the questions from the quiz included in the pool.
  8. All of the questions in the quiz will be added to the Question Bank Manager in a folder title "Name of Assessment-Section Heading 1."
